My name is Ashten Sommer. I was raised in Kingwood, TX about 45 minutes from downtown. I love Houston and feel blessed to live here. I graduated from Utah Valley University with a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education k-6 in 2018. I then went straight into a Masters program at the University of Phoenix and graduated with a Masters in Reading with an Emphasis in Education. After I moved back to Houston and taught at Eliot Elementary (a traditional education school) before finding Montessori at Baker Montessori in 2021. I am certified in GT, ESL teaching and Montessori Early Childhood from AMI. I was awarded Beginning Teacher of the Year my first year at Baker Montessori in 2023.
I love to travel and have been to over 12 countries and am always excited to go to new places. If I am not traveling I enjoy reading and continuing to learn! I love being a Montessori guide more than anything in the world and feel so blessed that this is what I do each day. I have done many things in my life but nothing teaches me more patience, empathy, understanding and love how being a guide does.

Gabrielle Tyree
Teacher Leader
Founding Teacher Leader and Primary Guide

I'm a Houston native hailing from the Southeast-Golfcrest/Reveille neighborhood. I bring several years of dedicated experience in education. I graduated from the University of Houston with a B.S. in Teaching and Learning and I am certified in the state of Texas for teaching Kindergarten-6th grade.
I began my teaching journey as an assistant in early childhood classrooms, gaining valuable experience while pursuing my teaching degree. Over the past seven years, I have worked as a public school teacher, and I recently earned my AMS certification for teaching elementary students ages 6-12.
I spent 4 years immersed in STEM education and concurrently brought garden education to the elementary schools I was serving.
Alongside my teaching journey, I’m a certified social emotional learning facilitator and yoga teacher. Beyond the classroom, my passions extend to spending time with my family, crafting, gardening and cooking. Travel is another love of mine; having explored 7 countries already, I look forward to adding more to that list in the future!

Our Staff

Taryn Jewell
Assistant Teacher
Taryn is currently a junior in college majoring in Psychology with a minor in Sociology. She has worked in a children’s hospital for 7 years both in Milwaukee and Houston. Taryn found her appreciation for Montessori when becoming a first time parent. Taking a Montessori based approach when raising her kids, she knew when looking for education the traditional setting was not one that could provide what Montessori would. She found that Montessori based education supports the whole child’s development. She truly believes in the Montessori curriculum to develop the child’s problem solving, social-emotional, and practical life skills.

As a Yellow Rose Montessori board member, Taryn is passionate about accessible, high-quality education and building a school that nurtures young minds while strengthening the community.
